Hello fellow cat lover,
Thanks for taking the time to come to my website. I hope you find it a useful resource about keeping cats indoors, if you have any suggestions or things you’d like to hear about that I’ve not covered please contact me and let me know, I’d love to hear from you.
This site came about because my daughter was pestering me to have a cat but we lived in an apartment. I’ve had free-roaming cats in our family nearly all my life but knew nothing about keeping cats indoors, in fact, a few years ago I thought it was cruel to keep cats indoors.
However, I’ve now completely changed my mind. In doing so I wanted to create a place where other cat lovers could come and find answers to questions they may have about looking after their cats, particularly keeping house cats.
Until a few years ago we had always lived in houses with gardens so our cats could roam ours, and probably our neighbours, garden! More recently we moved into a first-floor unit which meant if we got cats they would have to remain indoors. This did not sit well with me, so I started researching about keeping cats indoors. I also spoke to friends who are vets and other house cat owners and was amazed to find that cats can live as happily indoors as they can outdoors, provided they have the right environment.
We now have two rescue cats, Jeff & George who head up this page. They live very happily indoors, in fact, I’d go as far as to say they are the happiest and friendliest of all the cats our family has ever had. I wanted to share our findings on how to keep cats happy and healthy while living indoors. It was my daughter who originally did all the research on keeping cats indoors as she had been pestering me to get the first one (Jeff) and then a second (George). So this website is the culmination of our findings.
The rescue home that we got Jeff and George from blew me away with how much work it was for them to feed and care for the stray cats they took in. Not only that, but the rescuers had full-time day jobs. I was amazed at how hard the rescue centre worked to care for, get medical treatment and re-home cats and kittens. It is a labour of love and I wanted to find a way to help them, as they are constantly needing to fund-raising to cover vet bills, food and care for their strays.
This was when I thought about creating a website to help other indoor cat owners make the best choices for their cats and kittens. I am donating 10% of all profits made from this website to local cat rescue centres to help them continue to do such a heart felt and excellent job.
We hope you enjoy our site. If there is anything you would like to know more about that we haven’t covered, please get in touch, I’d love to hear from you. I’d love to hear your story too.
Happy reading
Niki
